Federal Skilled Worker overview
This is one of the 3 federal programs which is managed through the Express Entry route. This program is specifically targeted on skilled workers who have foreign work experience and are looking to move to Canada permanently.
This program has a minimum requirement for an applicant to have
- Work experience (Skilled)
- Education
- Language
In order to be eligible under this program, the candidate must meet all the minimum criteria.
If the candidate meets all the minimum requirements, then the application will be based on the following criteria:
- Age
- Education
- Work experience
- Valid job offer
- Language skills ( English and/or French)
- Adaptability ( settlement in Canada)
A Candidate will score points in each of these factors and these are scored under 100 point grid to assess eligibility. As of today, the threshold score is 67 points.
Once the candidate scores 67 points, the candidate is then eligible to enter the Express Entry pool which uses a different system to rank the candidate profile. The candidates who score the highest are the first ones to be invited to apply for Permanent Residence.
Federal Skilled worlds who meet the eligibility criteria submit an expression of interest (EOI) to the express entry pool. The ranking is based on the Comprehensive Ranking System ( CRS).
Essential Requirements for FSW
- Experience
Experience means that the candidate has worked at least 1 year in one of these National Occupation Classification (NOC) job categories :
- Managerial Jobs (NOC level 0)
- Professional jobs (NOC level A)
- Technical and Skilled Trader ( NOC level B)
